Repairs & Maintenance

- Maintenance Program
Over time, shrinkage and loss of underlying bone on which your dentures rest will occur; this is a natural process. Since your dentures do not change, they may no longer fit like they once did.
The Armitage Denture Clinic maintenance program is included when you become a patient. We want to ensure you continue to have positive experiences with your denture. With a complimentary annual appointment to have professional cleaning, the denturist will check the integrity of your denture, update any medical or dental history and make sure the stability of the bite is still optimal for your needs.

- Relines
This consists of adding new base material to the tissue side of a denture so it fits properly. Your Denturist will need to take an impression inside your existing denture. Relining affects only the fit of your denture and will not change the appearance of the denture.
Relines are required when tissue changes occur due to shrinkage. This can be due to:
- weight loss
- tooth loss or wear
- bone loss
- ageing
- disease or illness

- Repairs
In most cases, a Denturist at the Armitage Denture Clinic can restore an existing broken or cracked denture to its original state. Repairs may be required when breakage or chipping occurs, when one or more teeth need to be added to an existing denture (due to tooth extraction), or because of wear and tear.
Most repairs can easily be done in one day. If your denture requires a repair, it may be indicative of underlying problems, including age of the denture, worn teeth, or poor fit. A Denturist at the Armitage Denture Clinic is a professional who can best explain how to prevent denture breakage from occurring.
Softliners for Dentures
A permanent softliner will provide decreased pressure for a patient with severely receded or flat gums. A softliner can also help to minimize bone re-absorption.
Softliners require special cleaners for home care. When choosing a softliner you will require regular follow up visits with your Denturist to examine the fit of the denture, the health of oral tissues, and to ensure professional cleaning is maintained.
